The Rainford Evening League for 2011 will begin on Wednesday
April 13th. Meet at the north end of Ormskirk Road, near the
Wheatsheaf Pub on the Rainford bypass, to sign on and collect
numbers - £1 per race for club members, £2.50 for guest riders.
There is a limit of 50 riders for each race and numbers 1-20 will
be reserved for Wigan Wheelers and St Helens CRC club
members. Guest riders can start signing on at 21 and if there are
any spare places in the reserved numbers, they will be opened to
    anyone.

For the first event (April 13th), the first rider will start at 6.45 pm, for
the last two races (Aug 31st and Sept 7th) first rider will go off at
6.30 pm and the remainder of the races through the summer will
start at 7pm. Allow enough time to ride from here to the start near
    Bickerstaffe Church (about 2 miles).

The series comprises 22 ten mile time trials on course D10/1
(Course Details). The winner of the series, and the recipient of the
Holden Cup, will be decided by the total points gained over the
best eight rides for each rider - 20 points for 1st Wigan Wheeler,
19 points for 2nd etc each week. In the event of a tie for the series,
the winner will be decided by the lowest aggregate time. To qualify
for the Holden Cup you must have carried out marshaling duties
twice as set out on the Marshaling Rota.

The Series will be promoted jointly by St. Helens and ourselves.
St. Helens will promote the first segment of five events and the
third segment of five. We will promote the second and final
segments of six events. We need to provide 3 marshals each
week. St. Helens will look after Rainford Island, whilst we will do
the M58 turn. The Wheatsheaf island will be jointly marshaled by
the 2 clubs. Any other club member who has a spare evening will,
of course, be warmly welcomed - the more the merrier.

Wheelers

This year, as part of the Wednesday evening Rainford 10s, there
the winning team on the night. A further bonus point will be
awarded to the fastest team each week.

The points will be totted up over the summer and can be found on
the same page as the results from each week's 10.

The aim of this competition is to encourage more club members
to race, and to allow everyone who turns up each week to be part
of the competition, however fast they are riding, and whatever the
size of the field that week. So for this first year the rules will as
    follows:

  • 1st placed rider each week scores 50, 2nd place 49 etc.
The team with the highest score wins on the night.
  • 2 points for the win, 1 each if it’s a draw, every week
    towards the overall competition.
  • 1 bonus point every week for the team with the
    fastest average speed.
  • First team to 34 points wins the competition.

Giving the points according to overall position of all the riders on
the night, rather than just within the 2 clubs (like we do for the
Holden cup), means faster rides are more heavily rewarded, but
also that those (like me) at the slower end can still be scrapping
for points even if they are the slowest from both clubs on the night.
The fastest team bonus point helps to balance out the advantage
    of having a bigger team.

Everyone who rides counts towards the team score each week
    no limits on team size.
