CTC Group Every Sunday Club Chairman Harold Woodcock leads a CTC/touring group which aims to cover about 60-80 miles each week at a sociable pace. The rides last about 6 hours, and this includes 2 cafe stops, so the riding speed is in the range 13-14 mph. Bad weather may shorten the rides and the size of the group varies from a few to as many as twenty, again depending on the weather. The group meets at 9 am alternating between riding north from the Cherry Gardens pub on Wigan Lane (Map) and south into Cheshire from Ashton Library (Map). Faster Group Ian Hughes leads a slightly faster group which always meets at The Cherry Gardens pub on Wigan Lane (Map) - usually a Sunday ride but the but the day changes depending on racing or other commitments, and the weather forecast! They leave at 9 am with the aim of covering 50-85 miles, getting back between 12.30 - 3.30 and usually with a cafe stop on the way. The size of group is dependent on racing commitments, holidays etc. Any newcomers can be assured that nobody will get dropped and left to find there own way...guaranteed. Check the forum for details of each week's ride or contact Ian on 01257 278038 or by e-mail. Club Social Rides Ian has also initiated the club social rides when the 2 groups join together every few months. The two rides to date have gone well with a number of members turning out who can't make it every week. These rides also act as a chance for prospective new members to come along - the pace being gentle and the distance not so far. The next social ride is tentatively planned for mid march to go south to Cheshire - more details nearer the time. |
